Global databases of abstractive and analytical information on scientific research (Web of Science, Scopus, etc.) require Russian-language journals to submit a bibliographic list in Latin – References. Correct presentation of the sources being used in the bibliography allows for a qualitative assessment of the publication activities of Russian-speaking authors and the organization in which the authors work.
- In foreign standards for bibliographic records, separating marks such as “//”, “/”, “–” are being replaced by commas and periods, and “herringbones” are being replaced by “paws”.
- The numbering of entries in References must match the numbering of entries in the List of Sources.
BASIC RULES FOR PREPARING REFERENCES Vancouver Citation Style:
- Authors' names are transliterated. BSI transliteration standard.
- If there are more than four authors, the first three authors are indicated and then et al. is attributed (after comma).
- The authors' initials are written together, without periods. Only after the last initial of the last author a period is placed.
- The “and” conjunction and “&” sign are not used while listing authors.
- If the publication is compiled under the editorship, then (ed./eds.) is used.
- If a journal does not officially use a parallel English-language title, its title is transliterated (BSI standard), but not translated (information is checked on the publication's website).
- It is not advisable to include a translated title of the conference, as this will complicate the search for the required material.
- The title of a scientific journal, book, or collection is written in italics.
Желательно описывать вместо переводной книги ее оригинал.
- It is recommended to describe the original book instead of the translated one.
- The title of the article in Russian is translated into English (transliteration is not recommended).
- When describing a chapter/article the “In:” should be written prior to the title of a book, or collection.
- The city of publication - the full title in English: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, etc.
- Printer's imprint of the article is written together without spaces: year;volume(number):pages.
- If an article / book is in Russian of other language, other than English, the language of the original is indicated after the printer’s imprint (In Russ.).
- The DOI or URL (if any) appears at the end of the entry without a period.
Если книга переиздавалась, то указывается 2nd ed., 3rd ed., 4th ed. ets.
- If a book was reprinted then the 2nd ed., 3rd ed., 4th ed. etc. is indicated.
