Abstract
The article investigates the possibility of modifying the surface to form a nanostructured layers and coatings in metal materials and contains some specific examples of successful implementation of the objectives of nanostructuring of the surface layer in a metal surface by engineering techniques using various sources of thermal, chemical, heat treatment, physical or combined effects. In this investigation the possibility of obtaining the dispersion-hardened layers or coatings for forming a three-dimensional type of nanocrystal is realized: namely, in micro-sized (thickness of the order of tens or hundreds of microns) layer structure of a matrix solution with dispersed nanosized precipitates of secondary phases is formed. Carbides, nitrides and borides are such nanosized phases in our scientific paper.
There were identified the following promising surface modification processes, producing nanostructure in the surface layer of metallic materials:
- processes of diffusion metallization from coating using low-temperature plasma in combination with nitriding ;
- the process of laser — radiation boriding from coatings ;
- processes of receiving pyrolytic chromium coatings by vapor deposition of the metaloorganic chromium compounds in combination with a laser annealing.
Such combined surface engineering techniques involve a combination of thermal effects (chemical heat treatment, annealing), chemical exposure (doping, coating deposition) and physical effects (plasma, laser treatment).
The considered combine processes of surface nano- modification give the possibility to achieve carbon and high-alloy layers on the low-alloy steels with elements of the nanostructure, which provides high physical and mechanical properties of materials that improve the reliability and durability of machine parts and tools.
